Indigo Rose Software announces the immediate availability of MSI Factory 2.3, a point-and-click tool for creating Microsoft Windows Installer (.MSI) format software installers. The latest version includes support for Windows 11, an updated coding toolkit, and support for critical new security requirements.
MSI Factory is a visual tool allowing developers to build 100% pure MSI format installation packages by dropping in their application files and customizing dialog boxes. While no programming is required, the software provides a scriptable .EXE bootstrap wrapper for developers who want to fully customize their installers.
“We designed MSI Factory to do the complicated headwork that goes into creating installers so you can focus on deploying your actual product,” says Indigo Rose Software President Colin Adams. “Some coders want to get right in there and handle the advanced MSI features for themselves, so we made that easy, too.”
The current release of MSI Factory includes an updated WiX toolkit and the latest version of LZMA compression. It also adds support for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 and incorporates fixes for minor bugs. One of the most significant updates is the full support and integration of hardware token code signing for both OV and EV certificates, a critical new security requirement. Products shipped without this new protocol display security warnings to the end user, obviously undesirable for software distributors.
Additionally, MSI Factory 2.3 includes 300+ actions for creating custom installation solutions including registry editing, custom VBScript/Jscript, XML editing, and more. A visual dialog editor includes 22 different control types (check boxes, radio buttons, selection trees, etc.) for creating fully custom dialogs. While the product had been updated to work with Windows 11, it can generate installers that can work with all versions of Windows from 98 through to Windows 11.
MSI Factory 2.3 sells for $395 (US$) per developer or $995 for the Five Developer Team Pack. It can be purchased through all major software development tools resellers, or directly from Indigo Rose Software at https://www.indigorose.com. A free 30-day trial download is available from the company’s website.
