While patches can be created to accomplish many different tasks, the patching of files is the main purpose of a patch. Visual Patch allows you to easily add, remove and edit the properties of files you want to patch on the end users system.
Once you have determined what files are part of each version of your project, you are ready to add them to your Visual Patch project.
Adding Files
Files can be added to each version of your project using one of the following methods:
•
From the program menu by choosing Versions > Add Files...
•
By pressing the Insert key on your keyboard to open the "Add Files to Project" dialog.
•
By right clicking on the design window and selecting Add Files...
•
By dragging the desired file(s) onto the Visual Patch design window.
Note: Adding a file to your project makes a reference to that file on your development system. It does not make a copy, or modify that file in any way.
Removing Files
Selected files can be removed from your project using one of the following methods:
•
From the program menu by choosing Edit > Delete.
•
By pressing the Delete key on your keyboard while a file is selected.
•
By right clicking on a selected file and choosing Remove.
Note: Removing a file from your project only removes its reference in your project. The file will not be deleted from your development system.
Editing File Properties
Once files have been added to your project, you may need to edit the properties of individual, or groups of files in your project file list.
There are two types of file properties dialogs in Visual Patch:
The dialog that opens depends upon how many files are selected for editing. You can edit the file properties for one or more files by first selecting them and then using one of the following methods:
•
For single files, you can double click them.
•
Choose Versions > File Properties... from the program menu.
•
Right click on the selected file(s) and select File Properties...
•
By pressing Ctrl+Enter on your keyboard while the file(s) is selected.
