Location

Desktop

Create a shortcut to each selected file on the user's Desktop. Each shortcut's creation is based on the state of this tri-state check box.

Be prudent in your use of this option. It is generally not considered good etiquette to litter the user's desktop with shortcuts. At most, limit yourself to making a shortcut for only your main program.

Start menu > App shortcut folder

Create a shortcut to each selected file in the Start menu > Programs folder. The actual name and location of the folder is determined by the value on the Folders dialog, which by default is "[ProgramMenuFolder]My Product". The name of the product may also have been initially set on the Information screen of the Project Wizard. Each shortcut's creation is based on the state of this tri-state check box.

Note: Whether these shortcuts are installed to the per-user or all-users desktop is determined at install time by the value of the MSI ALLUSERS property. You can give the user the choice by including the "UserProfileDlg" dialog in your dialog sequence.

Other folder:

Create a shortcut to each selected file using a folder ID from the Folder Manager. Click the "Browse" button to open the Folders dialog to select a folder ID, or click the edit button to open the Edit Multiple Values dialog where you can change the folder ID for all selected files.

Properties

Description:

The state of the description that will accompany the shortcut(s). By default, if the file does not contain any version resources, the filename will be used as the description. If the file does contain version resources, its description will be extracted from that information. You may want to change this to something more meaningful and descriptive.

Note: The Description field is disabled when multiple files are selected.

Command line arguments:

The edit state of the command line arguments that you want passed to each file when the user uses the shortcut to launch the file. You can click the edit button to open the Edit Multiple Values dialog where you can change the command line arguments for all selected files.

Start in folder:

The state of the working directory for the shortcuts of the selected files.

Note: The Start in folder field is disabled when multiple files are selected.

Run mode:

The run mode for the selected files. Choose from:

<<Use original values>>

Use the original run mode for each of the files. This is the setting for each file prior to opening the multiple file properties dialog.

Normal window

Each file will be run with its window at normal size.

Minimized window

Each file will be run with its window minimized.

Maximized window

Each file will be run with its window maximized.

Comment:

The state of the comment string that will accompany each shortcut. This parameter is only supported on Windows 2000 and later. On operating systems that do not support the information, it will be ignored.

Note: The Comment field is disabled when multiple files are selected.

Shortcut key:

The shortcut key combination for each file. This setting cannot be modified from this dialog. The original values will be used for each file. If you wish to modify this property for a file, you must use the Shortcuts tab on the single file properties dialog.
