MSI Factory

This dialog allows you to configure Internet Information Services (IIS) on the end system during installation. The functionality for IIS installation is provided by a WiX extension and is not natively part of Windows Installer. However, it is a well-developed, tested extension that should work as reliably and seamlessly as native Windows Installer actions.

You can create the following kinds of custom actions by clicking the Add button:

Create Web Site

Allows you to create a new web site entry in IIS. Note that only the server versions of IIS (i.e. IIS 6.0 in Server 2003, etc.) allow the creation of new web sites. The workstation version of IIS (i.e. IIS 5.1 in Windows XP) allow only one web site and creating a new one using this action may wipe out the default web site. You should definitely have a good working knowledge of IIS to use this action as using it incorrectly can cause troubles for a user. See the Create Web Site dialog for more details.

Create Virtual Directory

Allows you to create a new virtual directory in an existing web site or in a new web site that you are creating with the Create Web Site action. See the Create Virtual Directory dialog for more details.

Create Web Service Extension

Allows you to create a new web service extension in IIS. See the Create Web Service Extension dialog for more details.

Create Web Application Pool

Allows you to create a new web application pool in IIS. See the Create Web Application Pool dialog for more details.

Once you have added an IIS action to the list you can edit it using the Edit button or remove it using the Remove button.
