Visual Patch 2.0 Creates Smaller and Faster Software Patches

Indigo Rose Software announces the immediate availability of Visual Patch 2.0. It is a fast and efficient solution for developers who need to create compact and secure update patches for their software products.

Visual Patch 2.0 features new DeltaMAX binary difference compression along with a full-history patching engine and integrated version management. The end result is a compact patch file that can update multiple older versions to the current release, all from a single-file executable that is compatible with all versions of windows from 95 to Vista.

Thanks to the drag and drop visual development environment and project wizard, Visual Patch 2.0 simplifies software version management. It turns the otherwise complicated task of managing point releases into a fast and automated process. Simply add your application files, edit the dialogs to customize the patch interface and click on “build”. Visual Patch 2.0 takes care of the rest by figuring out which files have changed, finding the exact changes within each file and determining how to update any previous version to the current version.

In comparison, Microsoft’s MSI 3.0 differencing algorithm required over 25 minutes to achieve a compression ratio of only 18.66%.”

Other features include automatic data integrity checking with MD5 and CRC-32 checksums; a scripting engine with 250+ high-level actions for complete control of the software patching system; creation of both interactive “wizard” style patches and fully automatic “silent” patches; a library of 20+ ready to use screen dialogs; a graphical skinning system; and rollback protection to restore the original application files in the event of an error or user abort.
