Data & CD Audio On Same CD

    Season Greetings to All,
I would like to make a CD which contains data for the CD ROM Drive and which can also be placed in a regular CD player and play CD audio - would these CD audio files need to be outside the folder which contains the datafiles for the project? I understand from previous posts that a mixed data CD is possible for example in Nero - anyone had success creating something like this?
    Regards,

I usually use Toast 6 on a Mac to do this, since I usually need separate Windows and Mac partitions when I do the enhanced audio CD thing, but I seem to remember seeing the option to do an enhanced audio CD in Nero, yes.

Basically, you need to format the structure of the disc inside Nero, or your burning software of choice. It's a lot more simple than it might seem at first. Look for the option in your burning software called, "Enahnced Audio CD."

I do this every year. I send out my Christmas Newsletter using AMS and it contains Christmas audio and pictures in a Data portion. I use Easy CD Creator to make the CD. Roxio calls it an Enhanced CD.

I've heard them called "Mixed Mode" CDs also. But only by street toughs.

IR actually has a google-referenced link about how to create one of these guys...

If you use Nero or Roxio, both have a Easy to follow wizard.

    Re: Enhanced CD

There was an old post that asked the same question. I responded to it with the following solution. I'm an Audio Mastering Engineer at a CD replication plant and this was the easiest and best method that gives flawless results when it gets down to glass mastering time, all-the-while giving you the best look when the end user inserts the CD.

It may be kind of late for this, but for future projects here's some advice on replication-ready "enhanced" CDR Premasters made in Easy CD Creator:

It's very important that you do not use the preset modes for enhanced CD's for two reasons...it will add funny little folders (Pictures and something esle), and it will not pass the replicators testing equipment (because the laser turns off in between modes using the preset projects).

    So...do the following:

Open EZ CD creator - select "Audio CD"

Drag all tracks that will make up the audio CD into the track window

Click create cd - Select "session at once" - burn.

Once finished, close EZ CD creator.

Re-open EZ CD creator, but select DATA CD.

Drag all elements that will make up the CD-ROM portion of your enhanced CD-ROM/Audio hybrid into the window and name the session, e.g., "CD-ROM Portion"

Click create cd - Select "track at once" and "close CD" - burn.

It is very odd how this works since the replicator's equipment looks for the laser to remain on during its burn (hence the DAO "Disc At Once" mode), but this works everytime.

You'll get a perfect audio CD (with no audible or trackable data portions - no fuzz or extra tracks), but one that also acts as a CD-ROM.

    Have fun!

    Protocol,
Thank you VERY much for the concise and clear step-by-step instructions. VERY usefull.
WHat about Nero? Would the process be the same?

    Thanks

Not sure about Nero. I use it at my production company, but we only make data or audio CD's there...never enhanced ROMs. Nero is a better program though and has more options. I can't imagine that you wouldn't be able to emulate the sequence.
