    Calling Worm!

    Hi,

I'm using the very nice cross-fade plug-in now and it looks smooth but transition playback seems a little slow on preview, and even more so on the final burned project. Is there any way to speed it up a tad? I'm using a step size of 2 and a delay of 0.

    Thanks!

Step is the amount of change in Opacity, and Delay is how long (miliseconds) that frame is shown. Increasing the Step, and/or decreasing the Delay are the only ways to speed up the transition.

If you can't get a result that you are satisfied with, let me know. If there are any problems in the transition, I'll get them taken care of. As of yet, this is the first I've heard of a speed problem. If anyone else that has used the transition has experienced this, please let me know.

    Faster but less smooth

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I tried adjusting the settings and they do speed it up but unfortunately I have found that if I use a step value of anything over the default of 2 the transition loses smoothness when coming to an end. Almost as if it gets to the last frame and then jumps over it, or skips abruptly. Does this happen to anyone else?

Worm, again, great plugin. I'm not knocking it in any way. I just want my playback to be as smooth as possible. Thanks

    jack_sparrow,

I'm trying to track this down and haven't had a lot of luck in slowing the transition. Could you tell me what object you have on the pages, and how many so I can try to recreate it myself. What OS? Or if the project is one that you could email me so I could test further, feel free.

    Thanks!

    Worm,

I thought it might be a problem with my project so I tried it with that AMS sample project, I forget what it's called, the one with a line of square thumbnails (cactus and flowers) on the left and the main picture on the right. I just increased the steps (to speed it up) and got that slight jerkiness at the end frame. Anything above the default "2" seems to produce this effect (even with the stretch plugin). The higher the steps the more pronounced it beomes. It's weird... I'm beginning to wonder, could it be that I am using a notebook for this project? It is a Compaq Presario P4/512 RAM/40GB/ATI radeon.

My main computer at work is a Mac G5 and as AMS doesn't have a Mac version (wish they did though) I use the Presario for these tasks. It seems fast enough and fine for the job but when I go home later I'll try this out on my desktop PC. I'll let you know how it works out. Sorry I should have tried this earlier but the notebook thing just occurred to me now.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Jack,
I would try and see if you have the latest driver for the Radeon card. Plus, what about DirectX?

Okay this is definitely a notebook issue. Something to do with a low screen redraw rate. My drivers (including DirectX) are the latest but it's still not as fast or smooth as the desktop PC. By the way, on the desktop PC, I didn't need to tweak the speed anyway, as it seemed fine. So... notebook screen or graphics card issue. Thanks for your suggestions.
