popup windows disabled!

Hi All, I am using a web object to view a specific site but on this site there is a link which is set to open in a new window. can I disable this?
so that Internet explorer will not be opened?
I have tried the allways on top but this just shows the task bar when the link is pressed.

Hi. This can only be disabled by editing the web page code. as far as I know. So if it's an external site, then I don't see any easy way you could override their javascript. Sorry, wish there was a way.

Password protection can be implemented in AMS too. How is it that you are using password protection to solve the pop-up issue? If I have an idea of the functionality you are seeking I may be able to offer some insight.

With the .exelock application I can promt a user for a password if IE is attempted to be opened.
I am not sure if it will work with the right click open in new window function of IE6 but I will have to try, unless you can think of another way which would be very much appreciated.
I am trying to make a kiosk style browser which only lets the user access the specified website and internal links. I do not have access to the server or pages and the current admin are not very helpful.
I would appreciate any help on preventing popups.

If I removed Internet Explorer from the machine would the web object still work, or does it rely on IE?

Hmmm. Ok let's see. Well first of all I don't think you can completely remove IE from a Windows machine but I might be wrong. AMS's Web Object relies in the IE activeX control to be present at runtime.

But there's an easier way here for I think. *If you are in control of the host machine* you can simply install any of the many inexpensive pop-up blockers on the market and that should prevent any pop-ups. Ask around to see which one is strongest... Here's an example for $30, but bear in mind I have no knowledge of this product, I just pulled it off of Google as an example, Try to to look around for one with the best features/reviews if you have time:

Seems to me there might be a way to do this in Windows too but it might also disable any non-popup related Javascript in your main page too which is undesirable, so I wouldn't reccomend that.

Sounds like the very easiest, cheapest solution is a good pop-up blocker. On the other hand if you feel that your kiosk might be prone to hacking then you're right, it's probably not a bad idea to just lock the IE executable. NO room for error there. (although that won't prevent pop-ups) I would only do that though if people have access to run stuff on your kiosk though.

Another solution might be to try the pop-up blocker and then see if any problems arise, if not, great. If so, then you could always add .exelock on a -per-need basis. This is probably the best approach if you have multiple kiosks. Hope that helps in some way, wish I knew more about kiosks. When things slow down a bit I'll do some reading up, I've been meaning to get some kiosk knowledge going for a while now...

I think that I will take the route of a popup blocker as I think that would solve one of my problems, on the other problem though I am a bit stuck.
The right click in IE6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess that I will just have to ask the admin if they can place the no right click Javascript into the pages for me.
If not than I will have to think of a way around it.

Hmmm. Seems to me those no right-click scripts don't work. You can just hold down the SHIFT key when clicking to get a new window. If you are in control of the host machine, *and it's a dedicated kiosk*, I suggest this, Buy a single button mouse such as:

. I know it's a bit James Bond, but it's 100% effective and it's a ~$20 solution. I don't there's any more effective way to get this same functionality.

Luckily, there will be no Keyboard available to the user.

If the admin agree to place the script there it will be fine, otherwise I'm doomed! lol.
I have been googling for the past hour or so and I still can't find a solution.
I know that I can uninstall IE but I am not sure if the Web object relies on it.

Any ides?

I have now sussed it Corey,

I have hidden the taskbar and made my browser in kiosk mode to stay on top.
Now if a user clicks a link which is _blank which makes it open in a new window it will never be displayed. Also the right click from with IE "open in new window is also behind the browser.

The machine is restarted daily so let's just hope that everyone who uses it does not try and open new windows because behind the scenes all the attempted opens will be there and too many could cause a system crash.
