So... What was your week like?

What a week! Up here in Winnipeg we had a couple of feet of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. That really put a damper on the enthusiasm brought about by the previous weeks of normal spring temperatures...

Topping it off, a bunch of people in the office were sick (myself included) or at least feeling sort of crummy.

Anyhow, that's the sort of week it's been. Rather quiet around the forums too. Must be the time of year. Everyone has their head down working, in anticipation of taking some summer holidays!

Here's looking forward to a relaxing weekend, a bit of physical recovery and the promise of a new week just a few days away.

So, what was your week like?

Big week for me - got round at last to upgrading to AMS5 and after hesitating for a few days in a bit of a panic, started my first project.

It looks like being the biggest I've attempted so far, a help file for a big/new system we are implementing to handle all the data we use via a browser interface. The initial roll out has had users in a panic so we're looking to tag on a 'hand holding' system with some screen grab video. Buying Camtasia Studio next week hopefully to use in conjunction with the project to create some of the content.

A while ago, Corey posted some demo training stuff that I think was done with Camtasia, is that right? I couldn't find them when I was looking today.

No snow here just Bluebells and Sunshine. Had a long 'conversation' with a Cuckoo whilst taking our dog for a walk - they can't resist responding when you reply to their calls. It was flying around in the tree tops trying to find the imposter for about 20 minutes. I had to stop in the end 'cause my wife said I was messing with the Cuckoo's mind

Hope those not feeling good (I.R. or clients) rebound quick!

    That said...

I installed, for the first time, Slackware (Linux 'distro' for those wondering). I wanted to take a small break from AMS 5 (Pro) for a bit.

It always seems to be good to take a break physically and mentally from time to time on any given project, activity I am involved in.

Slackware seems to be a good distro for me to move to, from R.H. So, I was looking down through all of the reviews on linuxquestions.org and low and behold I found an old online gaming buddy of mine. Pure dumb luck I suppose. Small web after all, seems. (grin)

3 hot baths, 3 long naps, and a day with no food (hot apple juice with cinnamon and water only) seem to have done the trick, I feel much better. Cool beans on the lost pal thing Intrigued!

As for leaving AMS aside for a spell, that's actually the best way to learn fast. Your mind can only integrate so much about something new, and during your rest from it, it "catches up" internalizing stuff.

A good example is guitar, if you are working hard on a given piece you tend to reach the limit of "the law of diminishing returns" fairly quickly, then if you walk away and don't think about the piece at all for a spell, when you come back you find that mysteriously the piece is now quite simple to learn. Steely Dan guitar solos are exactly like that.

So it's a good idea I think. Linux is a very cool thing to do in the meanwhile.

    Corey-
Very sorry to hear you’re under the weather in more ways then one. Typical Southern California weather here, mid seventies to low eighties (not to brag) rather boring when you have lived here your whole life.

I had a very productive week clearing my plate of work that’s not paying. Tigg’s been a massive help to my learning curve! (Thanks buddy!) There’s nothing better then setting back and having the architect of your pet project jump into your desktop from a thousand miles away and talk you through concepts you had no idea could happen and over the internet no less. (gotta love ventrilo )

Got to drop kick a video project I have been working on for some time (Thank God!) you can see it here Video Project (149 MB) and last but not least… I got my wife started on a huge Excel project for a CD that is due in July.

    What a week!

Cool Bruce. That's pretty neat that you guys work as a team like that.

P.S. Figured it out, it was food poisoning. I have a weakness for restaurants which have a sign out front which professes "#1 Food in Town" or "#1 Best Food on Earth", those sorts of things. The theory being that I'm going to disprove them somehow. So on Thursday we noticed an especially suspicious looking little restaurant which had a big sign saying, "Rated #1 Best In Calgary" so naturally I immediately stopped and ate there. And got soundly poisoned. Man did I ever disprove *that* sign. Either that or the governing body who awarded them this *#1 rating* was, "The Alberta Council for the Proliferation of Food Poisoning".

I might have to rethink my policy now that I've tasted the price of victory in the game of disproving signs.

I'm all better now though, back to 100%. Glad too, that was the most horrible day of my adult life. I'm pretty sure I almost passed on.
