Grin Acrobat Reader installer for AMS 5?

    Greetings, All -

In the days of AMS ver 4, some generous users and staff had come up with a couple of versions of procedures to check for and install, if necessary, Acrobat Reader. I came across the threads and tried to plop the apps into AMS 5, but I think there are some syntax issues that have to be addressed between ver's 4 & 5. Not being a programmer, I can't figure out what needs to be tweaked in order for it to work.

Any kind souls able to help out? Thanks a lot!

    Rich

PS: AMS 5 is an amazing upgrade! I've been using since ver 2, and each one just gets better and better. Major kudos to EVERYONE at IndigoRose for your efforts!!!

Assuming that you are using the Professional edition, go to Project > Dependencies and check the "Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0+" check box. You can adjust for specific versions as desired.

Hey Brett, unfortunately my boss wouldnt spring for the Prof. version....

can putting Acrobat 5.0 be like adding the Powerpoint viewer? that is:
    building a special folder ["Acrofolder"]
putting into that all the files i copied from my hard drive's Reader 5.0 folder
{QQ>>>there are folders inside of this created one - can on e do that?]

    so far i've built:

    File.Run("Acrofolder\\Reader\\AcroRd32.exe")
with the Args "PDFfile 01--andondown the line -- "
Working folder "Acrofolder" -- where i'll place all my .pdf files --

can a subfolder be addressed in that first line?? was hoping to keep it in their original folders to keep the Acrofolder clean as possible.

thanks guys - with all your help and input to me and others, i'm rapidly picking this up... and the sooner to get outta here to a better job/Boss!!!!

Reader works in program....not on VCD

Ok, got past all this and went to publish....

put project into a folder [along with all the folders that was in the project] and when i went to click onto my first .pdf file it gave me an error message.

i went to another .pdf file and that one opened up the Reader 5.0 [hopefully it was the one i put in the files and scripted to]

    what may have happened?

i have a honker winXP with 3.0Ghz speed and 1 + Gb RAM so there should be NO long uploading times.

    thanks again

Donna, you would probably need the correct registry entires
also ,to drive Acro5 from ya 'special folder..

does AMS5STD have a 'file extension association' action ?

ie open any .pdf with associated application...
another thought, you could supply the installer for ACRO-V6
think its about 9 meg in size for the std reader.

    my 2 cents..

:: Adobe Reader 6 how to create a 'Silent Install for it
Download: Adobe Reader 6 Basic or Adobe Reader 6 Full
Execute the downloaded file and wait for the Recomposing Data process to finish, then cancel out of Setup.

Browse to C:\WINDOWS\Cache\Adobe Reader 6\ (or WINNT) and copy all the contents of that directory to ya special folder\

Rename Adobe Reader 6.0.msi to AR6.msi
Add these lines to a batch file and run it under NT
    ECHO.
    ECHO Installing Adobe Reader 6
    ECHO Please wait...
    start /wait sourcepath\AdobeReader6\AR6.msi /QB
Approx. File Size of Adobe Reader 6 Basic: 17.9 MB

OR just run the file with your path\ AR6.msi /QB

Sorry CDRDUP, this may help out...

Normally ACRO6 does not require a reboot once installed
you could use the usual YE\NO message box or similar
requesting permission or wotever to install the AR6 proggie...
file associations are done during install. so once installed,
should be able to fireup .pdfs on the fly..

    v6 runs all versions .pdf
