    Image States / button maker

Hi. With APS 3 one could assign normal and mouse-over states to images. APS 5 has only simple images. The image states of APS 3 allowed me to make highly customized buttons, a function which I suppose the button maker should emulate. However, the button maker seems to mess with the images, always giving unsatisfactory and unusable results. Is there another way to do this?

    See attached examples.

    Hello Toosheds,

I took a look at the zip file you attached. What are the unsatisfactory results you are experencing?

    A sample

Here is a screen shot of the original image (top) and the converted button. Zoom in to see the noise around the bottom image. Too sloppy to use.

I like the using text effects, but would like to figure out how to get second states for images into APS 5.0!

    Hello,

I'm not sure why your image is changing like that. Whenever i save a jpg with too low a quality setting, that effect happens.

But to the best of my knowledge, the button editor does not change your images.

One thing I would suggest is to try the button editor with a different image, or export your images as PNG files (I've had nothing but good luck with png image files), which may take care of the compression issue.

As for using multiple states with an image object, that is not possible in AMS50.

Perhaps Corey could shed more light on the image problem? To me images are pretty pictures. That's as far as my expertise extends!

    png

    Thanks, Desmond.

Thought about trying .png, but (as is obvious from my other messages) haven't had the time, while trying to find a work around for other issues. (My jpeg quality was max.)

I definitely would like to see the different states for images reintroduced. This is possible with the button maker, but it seems the compression is too high for the images I am trying to use.

    Hello,

    Any time!

As for the compression, the button file (*.btn) is a compressed file containing the image files you specify. But it doesn't compress the images individually. It'd be like you zipping up all your jpg files, moving them to another computer, and unzipping. The actual image files don't change.

At least that's my understanding about it.
