    Capabilities

    Hello all.

I am a new owner of Media Studio. I have spent the last five years authoring in iShell (a wonderful program), but fewer business clients are accepting the requirement of QuickTime Installation, hence Media Studio. I have already completed a few simple video business card projects in Media Studio and am pleased with the results (as are the clients). I do have a couple of questions about the capabilities of this program (I don't want to know how...just if these are possible).

    1. We completed a large training package in iShell that logs the employees time in/out, and test results in a tab delineated file in the C Drive. We then used iShell to assemble all the employees results by employee number into a large table that could be opened by the manager....Possible in Media Studio?

    2. We created a catalog CD that would check a database on line for page changes, price changes etc, place the changes in a cache file and runs the program with updated prices images etc. An updatable CD. Possible in Media Studio?

Thanks for any info. You seem to have an active and helpful group here.

    Cheers

    Hi

Answer to Q1 - yes this is easily possible.

Q2 - AMS5 doesnt currently work directly with databases.

However, You could do this thru the web-browser object using php web pages and MySQL etc.

Rumor has it there is also a database plug-in soon to be released. That may be a good option.

We have a database plug-in coming out right away. SQLite.

Further to what Derek said, you shouldn't have any trouble doing either of the things you asked about. That's one of the greatest things about AutoPlay Media Studio 5.0 - we designed it to be very flexible!

Interacting with a web database through some sort of server-side "cgi" program is actually very easy. If you're running PHP or ASP or whatever on the server, you can have your AMS50 application post queries and receive data back using the HTTP.Submit action that is built-in to AMS50 Pro.

Here's a link to some more information:

And Derek's right - we're putting out a SQLite based database plugin in the next few weeks. It's a high performance local SQL database for your AMS50 Pro applications! I shouldn't do this actually, but seeing as how it's holiday fun time and all, here's a sneak peak:

Thanks for the info. It seems that this is a very flexible program. I'll just have to start learning.

    Just my 2cents-worth...

    Corey's right-on!

As a relatively new user (... 4 months or so into it) I constantly find myself singing, from the tops of each new mountainous project, genuine praises for this product, this forum and all the folks/team behind Indigo Rose!

Side note: Ted, thanks-a-zillion for the sneak peek at the SQL plugin documenation!!!

    Cheers!

P.S. Happy New Years to all the Development and Support Heroes at I.R. !!!

P.P.S. Obviously, this post hasn't shed any new light on the questions above, but I really, but the spirit just overwhelmed me, so I really couldn't help myself for "preaching to the choir"
