    Start Service

    I am tring to start MSDE (SQL) Service, had anyone else attempted this? It always fails I am sure I simple have the wrong name, but I have tried a few different ones MSSQLServer and MSQLSeRVR, any suggestions would be apperiacted.

    I don't have that going here, but try going into your Control Panel, Administrative Tools and launch "Services". There you should find all of the Services. See what name is listed there. Make sure you have exactly how it is listed there, including the character case.

    I narrowed my problem down, in XP and NT/2000 it seems to work fine, but in 98 it does not, unfortunately when you install MSDE it does not autostart, and I need it running to install my database. Any Suggestions?

    try to make SP6 start it using the Action option -> add -> Open/Close Programs -> excexute files
