    continue setup after restart

Is there any way to get the setup program to continue after the computer has been restarted? The installation of DCOM95 requires the computer to be restarted however setup does not continue. How can I get setup to continue after DCOM95 had been installed and the system rebooted? Please help!!!!

Grin Re: continue setup after restart

I have figured out how to get the setup to continue after restarting the computer however there is still a problem. When I run the DCOM95.exe the user is prompted to restart the computer. Setup does not continue when they restart but this is when I need it to continue. However, if I restart from windows setup continues. Does anybody have any suggestions about how I can get setup to continue after the user restarts after installing DCOM95. In addition, I had to restart the computer after installing mdac_typ.exe. Is this normally required?

    Thanks for any responses.

Create a second setup.exe file and intergrate this in your first setup file(which you run as startup). The second setup file has to be copied to the startup directory of windows. After users or admins logon the second setup file will automaticly fire.Make sure you kill the second setup file after running, if else it will keep on running till you kill it manually.

You can also use the Registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce

Put an entry in there and it will run your setup the next time the system is booted.

    Re: continue setup after restart

I had already tried what you suggested Brett and I didn't quite work. After the system rebooted after installing dcom the setup continued but then after the computer rebooted again (after the installation was complete) the setup started all over again. How does the setup program know whether to continue after it reboots? Is it only if that entry is made in the registry? Is there something else that I need to set?

    Re: continue setup after restart

    Hi,

I believe I spoke to you on the phone yesterday and mislead you in the instructions that I gave to you. I am very sorry for this confusion. Apparently my head was not on straight. I would like to resolve this issue for you. If you could send me your project file so I can see where you are in your design, I will give you a correct suggestion. Again, I am very sorry.
