Error "seek failed on an unnamed file"

Anybody else come across this when a Web Exe is being opened. I suspect that it's being caused by the file size which is around 2.5GB.

I've optimized resources but there isn't anything I can remove. The project consists of about 35 .wmv's of varying length all of which are dynamically loaded/played when selected in a listbox. A very simple 1 pager.

    Hello,

don't exceed the 2 GB file size, or you'll run into problems... You encountered a limitation of the Zip library used by AutoPlay Media Studio.

Thanks for that Ulrich - 'tis as I suspected.

I'll have to stick with my DVD version.

Just in case anyone else is interested....

I managed to create my exe without reducing my file size. I've never used Winrar to any extent but I made my own SFX with it and after a couple of false starts I'm really pleased with the result.

It creates the required folder on C:, a desktop shortcut and then runs my application. It also has licence and explanatory text windows that are displayed during the 'install' and the user can decline the install at the licence stage.

It's actually a bit o.t.t. for my requirements but I'm now a convert to Winrar

winrar's a great tool, the SFX option is pretty easy to use, but SFX rars can be unpacked via a right click which is a huge downside, for non commercial stuff its fine, but if you want to protect your content then its not really an ideal solution

the 2GB limit tho, used to apply pretty much across the board, iv encountered this limit before with various apps/libs, although most limits have been overcome, i think the ASM engine is stating to show its age a little...

Yes, a very important consideration for a lot of people to be sure. Fortunately (for me) it's not something I need to worry about as everything I do is free to our users and would be of no interest to the world at large

True, but a AMS web executable can be extracted too, winrar detects a SFX in the AMS executable and you will see a Extract here, Extract to... etc.

That's why you should encrypt the data segment I guess.

yea, but you still need a password, i know this password can be hexed out of the SFX but it stops the average woodbie hacker

to be honest tho, at this point im kinda thinking "whats the point", protect it, dont protect, it will get hacked either way, iv even seen hacked versions of my StatusIcon plugin (well, a patcher) but its BUGGED, crashes your app

if i compiled dog **** into a plugin i bet Kindy would try and hack it out, the mans unstoppable!!! (YES, iv been doing my research!!)

i guess i'll reside my self to something someone else said: "people that use cracked software would NEVER buy it in the first place, so youve lost nothing"

Now there's a good one, but still, it's the idea that someone steals something you created...

hel yea, if i caught someone taking me car radio (iv lost a few) id hit em with a sledghammer, plugin thief's deserve the same fate

i just need to care less, but then that would mean i don't have as much pride in what i do and my work gets sloppy, the plugins get naff and then all users suffer including myself, the fact i blow a fuse when i see my work upon the net free for all to help them selves should show i have a certain amount of pride in what i do, and dent a mans pride and your asking for trouble!

Me too - I could do with not getting so uptight when I feel that I've been ripped off. I go to ridiculous lengths that even make me laugh afterwards when I have been 'wronged'
