is there any way or a plugin perhaps to import animated .gif images?

This is not gif animation but works very well if you want to put in the effort to create your own animation.

I already thought of that slideshow technique... very clever indeed. but it will take me ages since i'm going to use lots of animated .gif.... :lol

GIF to AVI might work as well.
