Variables Problems?

In a project with several pages,i'm experiencing some brief (about 3-4 seconds) delay when clicking on a link to display the relevant text box and course of actions available for this specific event.The pages uses several variables.On another page where there are less variables and couse of actions,the pages executes correctly.
Is it possible that too many variables cause the actions to execute somehow slower? or the sequence of actions are not in a good order?

A few variables wouldn't do that. How many do you have? What do they contain?

There's about eight and they are used as a reference to show or hide event specific links (view screenshot,Copy to,Other Shapes,etc.)
