Port Blocking and IP Adresses

I had an old computer laying around and decided to create a little web server. So I installed apache, mysql, etc. and now I'm stuck....

I can access my server from my LAN IP just fine, however when I use my WAN IP the connection keeps timing out. So then I was told that most ISPs block port 80... so I changed to port 8080 and setup my router port forwarding to no avail. I thought this would be fairly easy.... does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Hey friend,

Did you use the net to get your IP or use Cprompt, ipconfig?
I haven't got a server running but I am going to give this a try.
I will let you know if I come up with anything.
Your ahead of me because I have to figure out how to
port foward to server.

I'm using the cmd ipconfig command. Every single port I try times out. Also, whenever I try to access my IP it goes to my router config which should only be on the internal 192.168.1.1.

Double-check the router port forwarding options.
For a test, try setting the router up so that your server is one in the DMZ.
There is an option to setup an IP that all the packets are forward to if the
router doesn't know what to do with them (but this leaves your server open for
an attack; this is a test only to see if your IPS allows you to host at all).

A home router DMZ host is a host on the internal network that has all ports exposed, except those ports forwarded otherwise.

I have noticed the following:

If I remove all of the port forwarding settings in my router config to default and then access my ip loads the router config. If I forward port 80 to my server's ip it just times out. (same with the dmz). Using online port checkers, It seems that every port I try it times out... it seems all my ports are blocked??

Attempting to set up a server now.
I am using a wiresless router.
I have to figure out how to get to my router settings.
Do I have to use a disk?

i have a local test server, i have port forward setup and wamp allowed through my firewall settings but i still have to drop my firewall if i want to access my server from outside my lan and if i try to connect to my wan ip without a proxy it will timeout.

how are you connecting to the server?

Yeah, It works just fine locally. Another question, how do I get my IP to show my website content rather than router config? Is that what the port forwarding does? If so... I did something wrong.

yeah, its not redirecting, check your port forward settings, for your router with a single web server use "Single Port Forwarding"
