*Free* OS - UBUNTU

Hey all,
I was just stumbling around the net looking for a patch for a game when out of nowhere I accidentally stumbled open this OS - Very unlikely I tell ya. Its open source and it seems it was there was a new version released a couple months back. The screenshots look totally hot and there's even two versions - Desktop Edition and a Server Edition. Plus you can even get it in your local language,Its free to share, and the best part is that its is built with "security in mind" - you get free security updates for at least 18 months on the desktop and server!! Nice. And a new updated version is released every six months! Nice again. Whats most surprising is that the first version was released way back in 2005 and I haven't heard a *single* mention of this OS.

Anyway, the entire CD is over 700mb and can be downloaded free of charge, but if you happen to have a slow connection you can request the CD - Again *Free* of charge. I have not installed it yet cos I'm downloading it as I type, but I read through the site (for about 2 hours) and it looks very promising indeed.

I've been using Ubuntu dual booting with Windows for about 2 years now and I love it. For anyone looking for a easy way to get into linux, this is the way to go. Anyone that wants something different or wants to get away from the pains of Windows should give it a try.

One thing to note however is that it is incompatible with some hardware, but they have a massive online community that should help get you on your way. Anyway, I love it....and you will to

I have been dualbooting Ubuntu for 4 years now, and Kubuntu is running on my older system...

I have got AMS6 working on my Ubuntu OS with wine, with alot of trouble...

Its kinda funny reading thru this thread so far cos It seems that Ubuntu is not as "New" to people as I first imagnied...

Anyway, I installed it and lemme tell you - it rox so far. The interface is very well designed and it probably has one of the *cleanest* desktops i have seen. More importantly the word and spreadsheet program that comes with the package is great too. Im still a brand new user and Im finding the ropes around the new OS but its fun....

I did notice that hardware incompatibility as it had a few issues with my portable hardrive I had my problem checked out on the site and corrected it in no time. Great community and great support.

I guess Ubuntu just earned a new fan

If you have a Broadcomm wireless card, either ditch it or stay away from Linux.

You can dual boot between anything (even multiple installations of XP) using a free boot utility called XOSL (www.xosl.org).

Hey that seems like a really effective tools mate. I am an Adventure game FREAK (cant stress enuf on that) and I absolutely love adventure games. Lately Ive been using DOSBOX and Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to play some of the classics, and now I'll consider that tools as well. Looks very handy if Im gna install Win 98 and 95 on my pc...
