I tell ya, I am not looking for a heated debate, but I plan on only buying mac computers from here on out. I have one windows and two mac's as of right now. I think after this HP dies I will go totally mac.

Knock on wood, I have never had a problem with my mac. I have a permanent windows logo scared into my forhead from hitting my head against my windows computer out of frustration.

i havent used a mac since i was at school (15 years ago) but i certanly wouldent mine owning one now, if anything just to see if the folk stories of a crash free system are true, who knows i might even like it and use it all the time

I have never, and will never, subscribe to that which is Apple/Mac. The Apple/Mac fad is similar to that which is StarBux. As we all saw, Starsucks is closing 600 stores due to over priced crappy coffee and an overly saturated market. I only hope the Mac stores also follow suit and also close down. The only reason I would ever own any Apple/Mac products is if someone gave them to me for free. Even then, I would probably destroy them, as donating them to charity would be cruel to the recipient.

The OS is very stable - while programs crash, the system doesn't. One thing that brings any computer to its knees (but particularly Macs, it seems), is bad RAM. These kinds of errors are manifested typically as "kernel panics," and are a catastrophic event when they occur - total system shutdown. So, while I have to say the system is pretty much crash-free, it's still a machine with obvious weaknesses that come with being a machine. No idea how Macs perform with Windows as the OS, but I think running Windows on a Mac box is really an expensive way to run Windows, honestly. There are all sorts of better hardware buys when it comes to running a Windows OS.

That being said, I love Macs, too, and always have. I've been using them since the Mac SE back in 1990 (which I still have, and it still works). The operating system is really beautiful, and easier to use for me. I find a couple of shortcomings (such as being able to rename/copy/paste/delete files inside dialog boxes other than those that are produced by Finder), but mostly, it's a better and safer OS.

I really wish AMS could output a Mac runtime. I think that would be a huge boon to the AMS developer base, and a shot in the arm to the sales of the product. I know it wouldn't be close to easy or seamless, but maybe a very dumbed-down output option to run as a Flash SWF would be the trick. That way, you could at least build a simple interface to distribute a cross-platform product. There's no easy way to do that otherwise right now, and it would be a market-leading product from day one.
