sure, but what are we talking, applications, examples

i think a small challenge on applications, but monthly is too soon, any app planed, designed, made and tested in a month isent going to win any competitions, lol

who would decide the winner ?

i'll reserve some space on my site for a *winners* page as long as the apps are a resonable size

this is something i would take part in, not all the time bu it would still be fun

    what are the rules?

apps made in AMS only ?
can we use 3rd party support ? (dll, ocx, lmd)
is there a size limit ?
    lines of code limit ?

    heres what i say,

interface must be made with AMS (as this is AMS forum) but any 3rd party plugins are ok

filesize limit of 5 MB and no code limit

once a month/every other month? on a cretan date decided by "screwed over" as its his idea, uses that want to enter pm him with a link to the app, on a deadline date for that month screwed over makes a post with a poll which has all the enterd apps listed and links and some info.....the forum decides the winner

^^ just how i would arrange it

I'd say I'm interested, but I can't promise anything since I'm always 99% of the time working on something. And I'm also not a god as Rizla or Worm are

Would the *.apz be forced to be shared or only the *.exe?
I'd say not forced, but really really really encouraged.

Ok, now first suggestion: any unuseful but cool UI thing (as a Coverflow) (Ok, may be hard but would be sooooo cool!)

Well I'm not as good as Worm, Rizla, Foxleader or Timesurfer but it sounds like it could be fun. When do we start ?

I think it should be strictly AMS - 2 reasons:

    1. The general idea [me thinks] is to improve the programming within AMS. This could benefit everybody if shared.
    2. Some are unable to make plugins so it should be ruled out to provide equal oppertunity.

i agree on the first point, but on the 2nd

it would be a programmers challenge, a chance to show off some custom plugins and AMS skill and tricks not before seen, i kinda think thats the whole point of the challenge, what the programer can make AMS do and as good as AMS is.....its nothing without its plugins

not only that, many of you are good with graphics, im useless with them so my apps have to make up for it with functionalty

or how about only useing publicly avalable free plugins (dll, ocx, lmd), no custom plugins or retail, i just cant work with AMS nowdays with out useing luacom

but anyway, i'll go with the masses on this one, lets hear some more opinions

I think that wait Rizla said in the last post makes a lot of sense. I'd go in that direction.

    Im in ..

I cant say i wouldnt want to use 3rd party resources in a programming comp but to be honest i dont think its a good idea. Anyone who can write dll's etc could could write all thier functions in domething like C++ and AMS would just end up being not much more than a wrapper for another language. I mean i can get AMS to do 3D stuff with the help of other programs but AMS doesnt do much more than pass on key strokes and load a lot of pictures.
If the idea is to demonstrate some clever programing techniques in AMS then to give all AMS users a chance i think it should be confined to the standard retail package. Otherwise you run the risk of only a couple of people entering.

    *I meant "what Rizla said"...

Anyway, I want to to see those 3D things

Regarding third-party apps, I'd say only free things, but isn't it a good thing to discover new (free) activex/dlls/etc to empower our apps? I think so!

One thing id be interested in would be a competition to see who could write the best game. AMS has limited GFX capabilities but I'm sure its very possible to produce something playable with some creative thinking. Games programming demands very efficient coding to.

but, have you any idea what it would take to program a even half decent AI, i spent weeks on a AI for a game i never did finish, it was ok but even with the 9k + lines of code it still was a little predictable at times

even with advanced game making software like DP Pro, FPS Creator, or Mark Overmars GameMaker, AI is something that really takes some codeing and would proberly be easyer to go and make some dll's with PB,

would be intresting to see what was made tho

Yeah AI can be a real pain to get right and very easy to over complicate it. Its VERY hard to produce AI that isnt predictable in one way or another. Even the worlds greatest computers get beaten a chess every now and then.
