    Stupid graphics question

ok - I'm probably thinking in the wrong direction, but as a civil engineer I can't help it! In autoCAD I can draw any shape, because it's vector - aka mathmatical....... so I can draw all of the graphics in (for example) windows media player. But how in the heck do you draw this in a graphics program?

I've always keep my graphics simple, but after looking at so many examples that have such wonderful graphics, I can't help but feel I'm missing something...........

    Hi,

You can also use a Free Graphics program called GIMP. www.GIMP.org
There is a tutorial section in da site.

Go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_gimp to have an idea of GIMP.

When it comes to mixing vector graphics with bitmaps, the best commercial tool at the moment is probably Xara Xtreme.

If you want something free, Creative Docs .NET is really good as well.

Working with a plethora of programs, I almost always come back to Photoshop. I think it is one of the best program of its kind ever made.
A free vector program you could check is Inkscape.

Thanks all! Yes, I've seen some very impressive graphics produced in photoshop, and I've got an older version, but man, there is a learning curve to photoshop. I feel like a one armed paper hanger when I'm trying to get anything done in photoshop! I think part of the problem is that I "think" in vector.
