Off the top of my head [without looking into a better way of doing it], you could get the default file viewer for .ram files.

File.GetdefaultViewer (".ram")

this will return the address where Real Media Player is installed.

Turn the computer on. Go about your normal duties. If it crashes at some point for no reason, real player is installed.

LOL ... very good, Lorne.

I must say: I really dislike reaplayer. It's way too intrusive for my liking - one of the reasons i disable auto-start and all the other things it likes to do on yur system. The only reason i have it at all is because some clips insist on being rm format ... otherwise it wouldnt make it onto my system at all [cherrish the thought!].

Amen Derek. When I got my work laptop, they had RP with RP Download. It just had to go. RealOne is a little better but still intrusive, I mean helpful by doing lots of stuff for you when you don't want it to.

Hear, Hear!

The format itself has fallen behind the standards set forth by Apple and now even Microsoft. I have a client who needs QuickTime, Real and Windows Media versions of all compression jobs - each with high and low bandwidth versions. 1 video clip, 6 separate files. Time to ditch Real!

I have it, but I don't care for programs that take over my computer by changing what application will open which files. I had to go through RealOne and disable several features so it is there when I want it. I agree that there are web feeds, usually streaming news on the web that it is good for, but I don't like programs that take over my computer. I don't think very many people like that based on some of the conversations here on the board about using AMS to control aspects of the users machine.

... streaming news and tuning into various Air Traffic frequencies is about all I use it for.

Interesting...you a fan of Pushing Tin?

One of my best friends was an air traffic controller for the Canadian Armed Forces...now he works as an air tactical weapons controller (which is basically someone whoe provides the "big picture" for fighter pilots on a mission). The terse language they use to convey the maximum information in the minimum time is really hard to get the hang of.

You're not kidding! If you dont keep up with it ... constantly refrshing your memory of what's what ... it's so easy to start forgetting things. Even tho you hear it again and again, you find yourself asking "Oh! what was that??"
This goes for the ATC laguage and the millions of acronyms used on the flight deck too. That is one job where zero tolerance is the order of the day, EVERY SINGLE DAY!
hmm! No wonder I dont work in ATC
