Canon MF8180C ?

Has anyone any experience of a Canon MF8180C all-in-one colour laser printer? I've been searching around for ages for something like this for my office at home but there are very few reviews out there. And of course you can't pop into PC World in the UK to have a look as far too specialised for them.

I've had very good luck with another all-in-1, HP Officejet 6110. I've had it for about four (4) years now and nay a problem.

They can be had for cheap. There is no media card reader on this unit, unlike the new units, if that is point you are needing on a all-in-1.

Thanks for that but the one I am looking at is a colour laser and also has Ethernet connectivity built-in. And a lot more money at close ito US$1,000!

OK I bought this machine and works generally well. Like most multi-function lasers it is quite large.

For scanning you have to use a USB connection rather than the network. I believe other multi-function printers allow scanning across the network but then let you down on other things (such as not being able to fax across the LAN) so perhaps there is a trade off. As I very rarely use scanning this is no big deal to me especially as it is in my home office and so close to the computers anyway. The USB cable is very short at around 1.5m.

Came with so much packaging including two getting started printed manuals each 200 pages long in various languages. The English bit is around 30 pages so one whole manual went in the (recycled) bin. Canon obviously don't like trees!

Took about 10 minutes to remove packaging (27 bits of sticky tape and two hidden bits of paper) and to insert 5 toner cartridges. Supposed to be able to control printer from a browser session but as of date not been able to with the printer returning 404 errors.

But overall I am pleased as just printed out the SUF7 user manual in glorious Technicolour which have not wanted to stress my old ink-jet with previously.
