    Possible problem in Session Variables

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Go to Session Variables -> APPS FOLDER
    2. Highlight or delete the existing entry.
    3. Place cursor somewhere in box.
    4. Right mouse click and select INSERT VARIABLE.
    5. Select the appropriate variable (I selected %SystemDrive%) by double-clicking it (not by clicking OK).
    6. The variable appears in Session Variables OK. Amend as required.
    7. Click OK to exit Session Variables and then go back into Session Variables.
    8. The variable and any manually entered text has disappeared.

If I type in variable manually in the Session Variables screen the system correctly saves the entry after the Session Variable window is closed. Selecting from the variable list is random as sometime it also saves if I click OK before returning to Session Variables screen - sometimes not. But will not save if I double-click it.

I’m sorry/disappointed to confirm the troubles reported by John. I think this misbehavior started after ver 7.0.5.1.

My workaround (when I had to edit %AppFolder%):

    - Delete the entry in %AppFolder%, click OK, then reopen Sesssion Variables.
    - Edit the %AppFolder% as usual (e.g. enter %ProgramFilesFolder%\%CompanyName% with Ctrl-B or right-click|Insert|Variable)
    - BEFORE SAVING: Copy the entered value (%ProgramFilesFolder%\%CompanyName%) to the clipboard, click OK.
    - Reopen Session Variables; the %AppFolder% value is empty!
    - Copy from the clipboard (Ctrl-V), and then click OK.

This solution is in fact identical to what John suggested:
“If I type in variable manually in the Session Variables screen the system correctly saves the entry after the Session Variable window is closed.”

As an aside this also happens when trying to insert a variable (any) into Actions. Without typing the variable manually it does not remember it when saved.

I also notice, when using the 'wizard' that if I then insert a variable, I can no longer use the cursor keys or delete keys to move along the line nor the TAB key to move to the next line. Then if I click on the next line the line I was typing reverts to the original entry.

Perhaps all related to the same underlying problem.

Was there any news on this being fixed? It is a right pain where it hurts!

    Thanks - John

According to the bug database, that one should already be fixed for the next release.

(The fix was actually made in the Visual Patch source code, but it hasn't been tested in Setup Factory yet.)

    Lorne,

Any idea of next release date as it is now a year since I first reported this problem? I am not one to complain...

    Thanks John
