text spacing

Hi , im making a sort of text editor for editing ascii art, the problem is that the spacing on the charecters in AM6 is different to the spacing in a text file. The full stops use half the amount of space that they would in a normal text file. So everything is coming out distorted. Is there any way to fix this at all?

Used a fixed width font, like Courier New.
