SU7 takes a full minute to load up...

Has anyone found a way to speed up the loading of SU7. My machine (WinXP Pro Sp2, P4 3.43 gHz, 2 GB RAM, Broadband cable modem internet connection) should be fast enough but the splash screen stays up for as much as a minute. Any ideas??

    Thanks!

On my machine this problem only occurs when I load a large project file. It does not happen when I just start SF ...

This happens everytime I start SU7 up (no project loading). I haven't been able to get it to load a project from the command line. There must be a new switch I'm not aware of...

Have you timed it at a minute with a watch, or does it just feel like a minute?

(Gotta ask...everything feels slower these days now that we're all on Internet time.)

Do you have an antivirus program installed? Is its realtime monitor enabled? If so try turning it off and see if it makes any difference.

Do you have anything else running in the background?

When was the last time you defragmented the hard drive?

RESPONSE: Timed it with my watch (I know what you mean though it felt like a half-an-hour. The timings varied between 45 seconds and 55 seconds the first time the application is run.

RESPONSE: Made no difference in the timing.

RESPONSE: There some items running in the background but every one of your products (SUF, TU and VP) all exhibit this big lag. Microsoft Word loads up quicker then SUF.

When was the last time you defragmented the hard drive?

RESPONSE: Not long ago. Probably within the last 30 days. Note this has been a complaint of mine from the initial install of SUF7. I have SUF5 and it exhibits none of this behavior.
Loren: See responses in the above quotes...

That's odd...it loads up in under 15 seconds here and I have a less powerful system than you do (a 2.8 GHz P4 with 1 GB of RAM). And that's with a realtime monitor scanning it.

I do have my services tweaked a bit, but I can't think of anything specific that would account for the speed difference. Unless maybe you have the indexing service enabled and the OS is indexing in the background, which it isn't supposed to.

When it does open does it go to the splash screen asking what you would like to do or does it open your last project?

    Adam,

The spalsh screen stays up until it leaves me with a new empty project.

Does the attached screen come up first or does it default to a new project?

You may want to go to Edit -> Preferences -> Startup and change it to "Show Welcome Dialog". Let me know what type of speed difference this makes.

    Adam,

Sorry it took so long to get back on this. That did not make any difference. I have since noticed that it takes a full minute to load the first time I run SUF 7 after rebooting (or an extended period of time) then successive loads take about 15 seconds. Do you do license or activation checking during the time the splash screen is loading?
