I looked into getting one that supported U3 a little while back, but I ended up just going for a run-of-the-mill drive instead. $80 for a 2GB thumb drive was ok for me. I later found out that our company could order the U3 type for less than I paid for the generic. Oh well. I still might get one anyways if its that cheap.

Anyways, from what I read, theres really nothing special about these drives when it comes to creating applications to run from it with AMS. The only thing that sets these drives apart from other thumb drives is the ability to boot a PC with it using standard CD-ROM emulation. In that case, AMS wouldn't do you any good. I have read posts where some people have hacked the portion of the drive that contains this information and extracted the contents to an ISO image. There's some tricky ways to put your own ISO image on it. I cant really suggest that anyone tries this as it would void your warranty if you flashed it incorrectly. These U3 drives contain firmware that generic ones don't.

So... as long as your AMS application doesn't have any dependencies to the operating system (all your support files are contained on the flash drive or compiled to your AMS executable), launching your AMS application from the read/write portion of this drive on any AMS-EXE compatible operating system is just the same as if it were any other USB drive. I know there are probably other capabilities of these drives over the generic type such as custom menus built on the drives but you could also use AMS to make the menu interface for it as well.

Edit: Intrigued: 5000 eh... you are one dedicated person... looking forward to the next 5000!

One of the thing I have not tried yet, is to write the AMS project so it can be added to the U3 user interface, (the U3 start menu). I request the SDK and now to see if a Amatuer coder can do what is needed to make it work?

I started to look over the code syntax for U3 myself. If I.R. had twice as many coder folks maybe we could get a AMS-friendly platform. But, I have had luck myself to-date with AMS and flash media. I just have not gone into the password protecting of the entire drive, for one.
