Length of Time to Change page name

I have a project that is 200 pages long, going to 1000 pages. When I insert a new page (copying the last page) and changing to a new page number, I have to wait for the the timer for at least 15 to 16 seconds. The only thing on the pages are the navigation buttons, since I add the content later. Everything else is blazing fast. I created a project that was 2000 pages long in autoplay 5, and never had to wait that long. I have pentium 4 (3.4) with two 250 gig hard drives that gets defragged every week or sooner. The only thing open on the screen is the properties explorer, which tells me what page I am on. This is my first project in auto play 6 and not sure what to expect. Is there something in the preferences that would make the timer to stay on that long. It seems to make the sliders bars in the explorer propeties box flash a lot, as if it is searching forever. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not sure about the reason, but what happens, afaik, is that AMS is coordinating all pages names so any action calling for a page is rechecked and corrected if necessary.

No consolation here, though.... I experienced a similar effect myself.

Thank you for your respose Yossi. I thought I was the only one with the problem. I am currently at 316 pages and the wait is 40 seconds to rename a page. I tried to add a page to one of my past projects in ams5 and it took less than a second, so I guess the problem is with the currrent version. I will have to go back to using version 5 for my long projects I guess. I have submitted a ticket and waiting for a response to confirm my findings.

What if you turn off page tabs (View > Panes > Page Tabs)? Does that make things any faster?

Brett, I never use the page tabs, I have everything turned off on the screen, except of course the page view and the propeties explorer which gives me a look at the total of pages. I use short cuts and even turn off the toolbars. I have even tried it without the properites explorer on and it is slow. I tried the same project on another computer at my home that is just as fast as the one I am currently using and it does the same thing. I only use that computer for editing, After Effects, etc. The only program that is running when I use AMS6 is maybe Photoshop, but usually I turn that off as well.

I haven't reached the point where I have to develop so many pages with different designs, yet.

This would be severely tasking for me, so I am thinking of using templates, content categories and SQLite. ( Analogous to Web Content Management System Templates using PHP and MySQL ).

So I need to build 2 separate interfaces in 1 app:
1. An Authoring Interface, having various templates for the author
2. A Reader Interface, pulling content from same source.

SQLite holds the path to templates that are linked to corresponding paths to Page Content Elements (Objects) such as HTML pages, Text Files, Images and Flash. The Elements are stored in Folders and loaded only when needed.

BTW, is there any way you could reduce the size of your project by making use of AMS60's ability to dynamically create and change the properties of objects? That is, are many of your pages the same basic thing (funtinally) with different content? If so, you may want to look at ways to make your projects more dynamic. Try pulling dunamic information from XML files or SQLite databases instead of hard coding it. Just a thought, I am not sure if this applies to you or not...

Thanks for the answer Brett. I wish I could say that I was good with code, but I am not. Each page is a different step for either repair or features and benefits of a product. Each page has a flash file that I create in Adobe Live Motion from pictures, or illustrations from Illustrator, or a video turned to flash. The first project I did was in ams5 and was over 2000 pages long. Worked great and adding pages was easy and fast. (well relatively speaking). I work for Subaru Industrial Products and I am the training mgr. I used ams5 for my training of engines and equipment. So one model generator (for example) could have up to 300 pages. 50 pages for features & benefits, 50 pages for teardown, 50 pages for reassembly, 50 pages for a particular engine used, 50 pages for troubleshooting the electrical components and so on. Then there are more that 30 current products that include, engines, generators, water pumps, etc. So you can see how it explodes into a large project. The reason I like ams is the ability to jump around to different products fast during my presentation. I only use this currently as my "large powerpoint". I will look forward to the next release of AMS6 and just revert back to using ams5 for the current time. Thanks again!

What was reffered to above was at design time.
Just to give you an example. I was just working on a project with 25 pages. They had to be different, so I couldn't use inherit features. An as to dynamic content, it was still easier to build the project manually.
Anyway, whenever I wanted to rename a page, AMS was like reviewing the whole project...Latency of around 10 seconds.
And I have a FAST computer (Dual core, 1GB Ram...)! On the other hand, a previous project of mine, with around 55 pages, worked like a charm. Renaming pages took seconds.
Simplpe to see this: Make a new project. Add 50 pages with the INS key. Then go to one page and rename it. If the Project Explorer panel is open, you can see that AMS "browses" through the whole list of pages and it takes sometime to do that...And during that time, no cursor, no keyboard in the app. On the other hand, renaming a page with an existing name (another page) gets fast response (page name is in use, choose a unique name).

Thanks guys, I believe we fixed this problem for the next service release providing it passes the testing stage. It seems to now be very quick.

Not always, but often it does load slow.

This will be a bugger to figure out I'm sure.
