    Grin Inexpensive Computer in France??

The young lad's computer (Alienware...couple of years old) has finally gone to that great Bit Bucket in the Sky. A wrinkle on getting him a new one, though. He's on a "semester abroard" in the south of France (geez...he got to go to France from Minneapolis. I got to go to Sioux Falls from Rapid City when I was in school. Life Ain't Fair. But I digress.. ). There are, of course, a ton of cheap computers available here in the US. However, by the time you factor in shipping and all, it adds up if I want to send it to him.

So.... a question to the folks Over There. Any suggestions for a good, but inexpensive, computer that could be purchased in France?

What about buying him a Panasonic Toughbook, and shipping that? The cost of shipping would be less than a replacement desktop model, and the machine is designed to take abuse. Just a thought...

Yeah - I didn't realize the prices were that high! Oh well... Perhaps another, less expensive portable model is in order, then?

    Hi,

You can expect NoteBook price in Europe similar to US.

If you get a Dell ( with minimum specs ) for US$800, its EU800 in France. Its their tax thats crunching. So your son must window shop first and know how much sales tax.

Bigger cities sell tech goods cheaper than in small towns or Southern France. Info is based on friends who travelled there. Reliability of info cannot be guaranteed.
