    Garage Band 3

It's nice that they're releasing tools which make it easier for people without any audio skills to make decent audio, I'm all for that. Anything which increases the quality of audio in the mainstream gets my support.

A lot of that stuff is nothing new but they've automated the processes so that normal people can do things they otherwise couldn't. Ducking is a great example. It's always been a simple task for an engineer to simply route music into a compressor and a voiceover track into the compressor's sidechain input causing the level of the vocal track to drive the compression for the music track. The net result of course being that when the voice is present, the music is reduced and vice versa. But this is obviously beyond the skills of a normal hobbyist so they automated it and added it as a new feature in version 3 of Garageband. Hopefully it will sound professional, it's a good idea.

Interesting quote from Leo LaPorte's latest podcast:

"For all my audio editing I use a great Windows program from Adobe called Adobe Audition."

"A kid in her dorm room can command, with a few hundred dollar software program and her PC, the equivalent of a million dollar recording studio of ten or fifteen years ago."
