Sony to debut Blu-ray player in early summer

    http://www.techdigest.tv/2006/01/ces_2006_sony_t.html

    Very cool.

Sony also confirmed that it would have Blu-ray recorders for the PC at around the same time as well that can record on both 25 and 50 Gig discs...

Oh man... When 50 GB discs get affordable I'm going to tape a camera to my head and back up every thing I see. Then if I ever need to remember something, alls I have to is review the DVDs, see? Yep, pretty sweet... Course I'll need a temperature controlled vault with a titanium viewport and rich Corinthian leather interior but that's peanuts for a cat like me. [finger snap]

Well, these discs are still optical. 50 GB used to be a lot of data. It wasn't so long ago that hard drives didn't go that large on most systems. Ahhhh.... Those were the days.

Blu-Ray is going to be much more about film original content, at least for the first few years. There's no reason for most consumers to even own a player until the price comes down into the ballpark of where prices are for SD DVD players now. Most video pros don't even own equipment that will allow them to shoot in true HD. That will change, but it will take time.

I'm interested to see what Blu-Ray being first to market will do to the upcoming format war. How much do we bet that it's an important battle in the overall war?

I'm good for 18 cents CAN. I'll put it in escrow.

Hey hey! Good for you AGRO, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I trade in currency regulary. Every two weeks I trade all my currency with "the man" in exchange for the right to exist.
