    speech bubble question/image

    Hi,

I'm creating an interactive handset training guide for my clients and I would like to add some callout (speech bubbles) to the guide. However any image I create in Photoshop (5.5) seems to have a white background so when I place the image over a photo in the guide (for example) the white background gets in the way. Can anyone suggest a way to create the image either in AMS or in Photoshop which doesn't automatically fill in the background.

Photoshop 5.5 has sketchy PNG alpha transparency support, seems to me it was via a sort of akward plug-in looking Adobe wizard which never got perfect results. I would recommend using a more modern image editor for exporting PNG with alpha, there's probably a few decent free ones around if you check Google...

FWIW Macromedia Captivate has a built-in means of creating these bubbles / callouts.... the Captivate files may be exported to .swf and then imported into AMS...

Doesn't AMS have an option to set a certain color as transparent on an image? That'd be the easiest solution.

Not if you have semi transparent (read alpha channel, Anti-aliased boundaries) image. Then the background color "leaks" through.

    Perfect, the tranparency tip works.

    Wow,

That transparency property is exactly what I need. I can capture the speech bubbles from powerpoints collection of callouts. Then (as long as my speech bubble is in colour, i can use the transparency property to make the white background transparent.

    Perfect!!!

    Thanks for all your help!
