    Arhives for free...

The Internet Archive is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, and the general public.

Check this out (Wayback Machine, links on the page that loads from the link above)

I noticed when using the Wayback Machine tool... just add your Website URL after:

    http://web.archive.org/web/*/

Maybe this could be worked into an AMS project?

Anyway, I had forgotten about that site and thought it was neat to try it out again.

That is so cool, Thanks for the link.

I get that "what was I thinking" feeling when you look back at my web sites 3 years ago.

I noticed that any images like logos and screen shots I had used are displayed briefly and then are covered with a grey box. I wonder why that is?

    Just curious.

Strange, some of the images show and some don't.

Another neat thing about this is you can access any files you had available for download. Just last week I had a customer who was running an old old version of one of my programs. He needed to reinstall an update but I could not find the file. Instead I had to send him the full version on CD. This would have saved a lot of time and hassle.

Try replacing the * in ... http://web.archive.org/web/*/ .. with a year. It seems to work and cuts down the time for the search (I'm surmising that "*" is for all records (years).

I have just been playing the 1997 IR classics ArithmeTick-Tac-Toe and Multimeadia Spelling Bee.

By the way they run fine on XP Pro.

WOW. That *is* freaky looking back on sites I've worked on and/or designed over the years. There's literally hundreds and hundreds of them in there from my old days stamping out quickies for the ISPs, with a couple going all the way back to late 1998. Dang. Wow. Dang. Dang wow. What a wild ride.

Interestingly it doesn't have any record at all of my very first domain though:
    http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://...reamingcat.com

I wonder why? It seems to have a reference to every other site I worked on, including some before that one, and many which were just inconsequential 5 pagers which took less than a day to complete, i.e.:

I won't say where but I have found a link that works for AMS 2.0. What? No plugin support?

*Oh, found version 1.0. Boy, I.R. you have really brought this segment of the market a long way!

Wow! That version 1.1 was small in size (.exe)

    Version: Evaluation Version 1.1
    Date: November 12, 1997
    Size: 997 KB

Hee! Look at that graphic. Yes, times sure have changed. Back then the market was completely different. Here's what it looked like when I arrived, not bad actually:
    http://web.archive.org/web/200108011...com/index.html

And I think this is the first archive where I had a chance to put up a new site:
    http://web.archive.org/web/200206110...site/index.php

Pretty cool archive. I have to give Colin mad props for being online since 1997. I don't know any other business person who was operating online in 1997. 1998 seems to be when the very first wave in Edmonton got online.
