    Strange actions (mis)behaviour

    Hi,
I'va had the following problem occuring a few times lately. A simple file related action just doesn't work. Either a File.Open (which should launch a mpeg file. And YES, I have the association setup properly and the file is in its correct location) or even a File.openURL. Not that it cannot find the file, but I get an error stating there is a wrong character at the <eof>, in this case. And I have NO wrong character, as I am using the action wizard and not hand typing.

Funny thing is that that action would work in another page/project.
    Ideas, anybody?
    Thanks

    Yossi

Hi Yossi. Hmmm... Does it happen consistently, i.e. is it "reproducable"?

No Corey, not "reproduceable". I wish it were...

Hee. Wow this is a tricky one, I can't think of how to fix this and you know how hard it is to call in the bloodhound gang on anything which can't be reproduced. FWIW it sounds like something is "interfering" with the actions, or preventing them from executnig properly, but not consistently which is perplexing. The only thing I've ever heard of which comes close is when a multimedia keyboard starts malfunctioning occasionally you get intermittent hassles with unrelated stuff but I'm not sure why.

    This one's a real humdinger.

Keyboard is out as I have a regular one.
Could it be that a file got corrupted and I should reinstall AMS? Does it sound logical?
Here, an example. A couple of days ago. A VERY simple action, one button, onClick File.Open a mpeg video. It should launch Windows Media Player with that file, right? NO!
The workaround I had to do (tight schedule) was to use the media player plugin INSIDE AMS. I wanted an external window, but had to compromise.

    Go figure....

How about your file associations in Windows?

You could try the ultimate step of trying to reinstall Windows...

File ass isn't the issue, as the mediaplayer plugin DOES play these files.
    WINDOW INSTALL??? Yeah, right

    Solved it!

I reinstalled Windows Media Player and that did the trick.
What is really weird is that launching these files (mpg videos) from the player itself worked perfectly. It must be something in the way AMS communicates with the player and something "bad" happening to that particular piece of software which caused my problem.
Thanks for those who listened and spent time thinking about it.
