Do you Camera Raw it?

Well dang. I will not get to venture out into the semi-pro photography manipulation field just yet.

Why?

Well, though many in the Canon PowerShot line of digital cameras offer up the Camera Raw data, alas, my model does not (PowerShot A70 - not the pro version either).

But, has anyone else out there taken advantage of their digital camera's Camera Raw data? Edit it? If so, have you found it that much more useful in your offerings... that you did have access to the Camera Raw data?

Mine's a Sony, but I see they list only one single solitary Sony on that page. C'mon Sony, get with it. I used to like Sony but I tell you in recent years, they've sure done nothing to maintain their brand...

Also I've noticed that firmware updates for digita cameras seem to be non-existent which is shameful on the part of these manufacturers who are making pretty decent profits. I mean, if Behringer can release multiple firmware upgrades for my $400 MIDI controller in a matter of a couple months, you would think Sony would manage to muster up at least one tiny one in the 3 years I've owned my $3K camera. Whacky stuff.

For this, Sony get's my famous, "Quintipled face of sourness".

I just bought a Canon 300D (rebel) in December and to be honest I haven't used the Raw feature. It's already more camera than I probably need.

It may just be that I'm too lazy to convert them to another format or my wife wouldn't have a clue what to do with them.

A serious photographer would probably only shoot in the RAW format. My understanding is it give you a lot more control of the exposure settings for post processing.

And you can then work in 16-bit mode with the plugin for Photoshop CS. Which is nice I read because then you have more data to disgard as you do say Level adjustments and what not.
