Grin Transparent background in a .swf?

Is there a way to have the background transparent in a .swf movie? We can change or override the background color in ams4 but how about the transparent background? that would mean so many more options with .swf and ams4.

Re: Transparent background in a .swf?

Macromedia has a support page about making backgrounds transparent in Flash (works in IE 3.0 or higher):

    http://www.macromedia.com/support/fl...ents/wmode.htm

Not sure about whether this can be done in LiveMotion. I've got ver. 2 on a Mac at the office, so I'll check it out on Monday.

I am refering to the flash movie in the ams4 menu. In ams4 we can change the background color but we can not make the background transparent.

I see. Well that would be a nice addition. But if you are developing in Flash anyway, why not just set it there first? It doesn't change the end result.

I see the benefit of having the option to change later without jumping back into Flash. I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see the option.

Problem is, it doesn't work in anything but IE 3 or higher...as far as we could determine, it was an Internet Explorer-only setting.

Macromedia isn't exactly forthcoming about these details, either, unfortunately. Most of the implementation information out there is from third parties (especially open-source projects).

Re: Transparent background in a .swf?

BTW, we actually had a "transparent background" option for the Flash Object for a while...but it had no effect, and we couldn't find a way to make it have any effect, and we couldn't find any information on making it have any effect, short of reverse-engineering IE (which would be a bit difficult and to some extent illegal).

So I suggested that the option be removed.

So if we're wrong, and we just didn't look in the right places, it's my fault. Which I'll be more than glad to admit, if any of you happen to know how to make the Flash ActiveX control render itself transparently over the application window it's being drawn on.

IMHO there are bigger fish to fry. Especially because I'm not enough of a code warrior to be able to offer any assistance on the Active X control question.
