Huh? 1and1 hosting...any experiences?

I'm looking for someone to host a SQL server for a "new" product I'll be rolling out next year. I've been reading all the "1and1" ads in the mags, and was wondering if any of you have had experience with them.

-or-

If you can make a suggestion for someone YOU like that won't break my rather meager bank.

Thanks...

You want some serious hassle free hosting? If you can afford $9 per month ($99 per year prepaid) you *cannot beat* the performance and features of a 4U shared hosting account at http://www.tera-byte.com . I have been using them for years and have never had a single glitch. The features are many, and there is a great control panel to admin your account. Can't say enough good things about Tera-byte, they are simply the best.

I have been using one 1and1 account for a while now. Overall it is OK. The features are there and it performs OK for what I use it for (a small hobby site). I am not crazy about the control panel, but it does the trick.

However, I would have to agree with Corey that Tera-Byte is the way to go for cheap hosting. I have been hosting several accounts on Tera-Byte for about 5 years now with never a problem. The service is fantasic, the speed is good and the features are all there.

I'm popping 'em a note to see if they off SQL server as an option on one of their configurations. THanks for the info!

I have been using myhosting.com http://myhosting.com for about four years now and have had no problems. They offer SQL Server starting from $25 a month which I also use and again no problems. They are based in Toronto.

I am a two-year old customer of www.srlhosting.com

The service is legendary - check them out. Rob is really on the ball. I regularly see some of the fastest server speeds from my own server compared with just about any other site I ever visit. They also have very fair reseller plans which make it possible to actually make a buck or two when you need to host sites you build for your clients.

Amsuser.com is hosted with 1and1.com (thanks Brett for the headsup) and it seems to be a well laid out operation all-in-all.

I tried their technical support via telephone once to see how it faired and I received a quick reply and accurate reply to my question.

It may not be the cheapest, but, it's not pricey either.

1and1 oversells their servers (as do most hosts -- GoDaddy especially!!). But for the price, you can't really beat them.

On the other hand, if you need tecnical support, go with a smaller company (they'll actually see you as a name, not just a $x.xx/month customer -- Though I don't have any suggestions). I contacted 1and1 technical support once, they just shot back links to their FAQ (which i read, didn't even remotely address my questions) ... not that I expected much more for the price.

I use VodaHost (www.mina-e.com). They have a very helpful vB forum, and the price is worth it.

Odd, as I received a quick pickup and answer from them. But, that was shortly after I signed up with the FREE service bonanza that Brett alerted us to back in I believe it was 2004(?)

I use tera-byte.com for all my sites. Have for many years without any problems. Awesome support. A 4U account costs $99 per year and works well for most sites. But I've been meaning to try GoDaddy, nice prices.

Corey will start using 1and1.com. It's is written in the stars (and this 50 cents cystal ball shows him clicking the Buy It Now! button on their Website).
