Basic Authentication w/ proxy server

We purchased some engineering software that uses TU for version updates. We have a proxy server and the TU script is configured so that it requires the userid/password authentication information to be hardcoded in plain text in the registry.

Is there some way to have the TU script just prompt the user for the authentication information and then not store it in the registry? If there is a way I can probably coordinate with the engineering software programmer to update the cli file involved.
