What have you done with AMS5?
AMS5 allows all kinds of terrific new things. Page transitions, changing the size and location of objects, and more, are now available. Who out there has created sample projects that exploit some of these new found abilities? I’d like to hear about, or better yet, see what cool new things people are building. Does anyone want to share and show off a little? The Beta probably hasn’t been out long enough for too many people to build huge finished projects, but their must be some interesting experiments that demonstrate practical, and not so practical uses of some of these new features. Brett and all the fine coders at IR have delivered several of the things we asked for, so who wants to step up and show them that all their hard work is getting used? Who has thought of novel and creative exploitations?

Here is one that I did. Just for viewing pictures as a slide show. picture_viewer Like I said, nothing fancy. I have a few others working with Zip files, videos, and web browsers. Just weird things to test the product and see some of the new capabilities. Tigg Last edited by TJ_Tigger; 11-03-2003 at 08:51 AM. |

Tigg,
Nice job! I do run into continuous errors if I run a slideshow, then choose select a dir, then cancel out of the file requester dialog. Check it out. |

Ok you can download from the link above and try it again. I have added some redundant code to make checks on different things.

Yeah I know Tigg but with ticket prices low as they are I simply can't afford to be as funny as I used to be... Budget cuts clearly had to be made somewhere, and my sense of humor seemed like a harmless place to start. I've also discontinued my table manners and am currently working closely with Warren Buffet on retooling my boyish charm, at least until prices rebound.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Good job Tig! That’s exactly the type of thing I was hoping to see, thanks for sharing. Like I stated earlier, AMS5 hasn’t been out long enough to get much Gold code done. At least for me, it always takes much longer doing the debugging than the fun coding. I call it fun coding, getting the code framed in and mostly working, at least under certain, sometimes strict, situations. Then comes the un-fun, often long and grueling part, the debugging and testing to get it to work right under all conditions, making it Gold. My question wasn’t meant to create a forum to point out what is wrong with someone’s code. It was about getting an early sneak peak of the different types of projects and experiments that different people are in the process of building. None of us should expect finished projects yet.
Your sample project shows good use of the new ability to change picture elements dynamically. The graphics program (still in development) that I’m working on in AMS4, requires my picture elements to be displayed in a web browser object. It has to keep dynamically writing and displaying a new web page in order to display changes to the picture. I’m pumped about the new dynamic qualities of picture objects. That could make my project much better in terms of speed, usability, and looks. Your moving buttons are slick too. Eat your heart out Flash. I think that the ability to dynamically change an object’s size and position has got to be just about the single greatest advancement in AMS5 over AMS4. I expect to see lots of projects use this ability, other than animated GIF’s, I’d bet that this was the most requested new feature. It was on my want list for sure. I wish I had better math skills, so that I could write the tight algorithms used for fancy paths (object movements). I can probably figure out the math to move something horizontally or vertically, maybe with enough caffeine and head banging, I could create a diagonal path, but to create any more complex motions, I’m going to have to result to asking lots of questions, and ultimately copying someone else’s work. Your project gave me some cool ideas. Thanks for sharing. I was hoping to see a few more examples, so far you are the only one that has been bold enough to brave the critiques and share. You’re the Man. Keep on keeping on. |

I have updated the Picture Viewer to include the option of placing the currently viewed picture as your wallpaper. In so doing, you will have the option of setting the Format of the wallpaper (i.e., tiled, stretched or centered). The code for the SetWallpaper action is setup as a Function in the Global actions list. If there are questions or comments please let me know.
As part of this project, I have included a program that Worm wrote that will convert the .jpg files to .bmp. The size of the download is now larger due to the additional functions. You can get the file here: Picture Viewer Plus Thanks JimS. I had fun putting this together. It is nothing fancy but just a quick project that would allow me to try some of the new functions. There are still a lot of actions I still need to test, but by doing this I hope I have helped in some way. Tigg |

Hey Tigg,
When unzipping the downloaded file, prompts keep popping up for password protected elements. Is that something on my end, is it built into your zip file, did I miss the password somewhere in the thread, or is it just simply top-secret?
