Where did it upgrade?

As a test; I created a mini app with some modules updated and some not.

I then installed the old version of the app toa directory.

Then installed to a 2nd directory.

Then ran VP "patch.exe" and IT decided which directory to update.

I'd like to see and option for the "auto search" feature to be disabled so the user can say "upgrade this directory"

Re: Where did it upgrade?

Thanks for the post. A few things:

1. You can disable the system search by going to Settings | General Design and going to the Key Folder tab and unchecking the "Do not perform system file search..." option.

2. On the same screen as (1) above, make sure that %SrcDir% is listed in the top position in the search order. This way, if the user really wants to target a specific installation of the product, they can simply copy the patch to the application directory and run it from there.

3. You could let the user choose %AppDir% by using the Screen Manager. Instead of aborting the install if the product was not located, show a screen that asks them to browse their hard drive.

Re: Where did it upgrade?

Thanks. That's just what I was looking for.

I like the "upgrade from any version" aspect. This is nice; one patch file to upgrade, makes upgrades much simplier!

Great job!

Re: Where did it upgrade?

I created one w/ the box checked & NO paths in the list -- assuming I KNEW the .exe wasn't going to be in the same directory...

it still began a length search.

I put "%srcdir% back in; the patch was in a directory (no sub directories) by itself; still a search seemed to take a long time; assuming it searched one file.

Next I did this:

I put a dummy directory in place.

then I asked the user to select a directory to update.

the "abort" screen still shows up even tho they point to a valid directory to be upgraded... (the abort screen pops up when %PreviousVersionFound% = False -- so doe this variable ONLY get set when VisualPatch does it's own looking?)
