Packaging and more
Hi!
Think, the following may be useful and not too hard to implement: 1. Merge - option to merge two or more projects into the single one. Or - import definitions from one project to another. Things that may be imported (selectively): files with properties, shell commands, editors commands. 2. Option to define package contents also on the runtime modules level, to elliminate the need to find the relevand names in the list of hundreds of files. 3. Instead of the previous suggestion there may be the feature of grouping files, so that runtime module files may be dropped into specified group, and package may be built not only from individual files, but from groups too. Re: Packaging and more
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions. As far as your first suggestion goes, in the newest version of Setup Factory (5.0.1.3) you can copy and paste things like FILE OPERATIONS and REGISTRY COMMANDS from project to project. So if you open up two copies of Setup Factory you can copy and paste information between the two. Though this is true a Merge option would be a nice feature. With regards to your second and third suggestion, if I understand you correctly, you want some way to graphically (or non-graphically) group files in Packages so that the packages are easier to use? So there would almost be view levels: you could view from the package level or from the actual file level. I think that this is a good suggestion, if I have misunderstood your suggestions please clarify them to me. mark.

Re: Packaging and more
Hi, Mark!
Let's use QBE methodology. I've created the program that uses third party API's and, say, VB runtime environment. I'd like to let to the user option not to install and register the supporting DLL's if my program is not the first on the target machine, that uses this runtime environment. So I'd like to create package "Runtime support" and to build it from two groups of files - VB runtime and that third party DLL's. For now I need to fish these files in the list of several dozens (or hundreds) of items. So I meant the grouping not in the package, but rather in the main list of files. And possibility to relate the runtime module files to specified group. And ability to move files between groups. And insert into the package individual files and groups. How you'll implement it - is not any **** business of mine BTW, one note concerning the forum itself. Think it would be excellent to have spell checker for those of us, that don't have the English as mother tongue. Regards, Gennady [This message has been edited by gena (edited 01-18-2001).] |

Re: Packaging and more
Hi,
Thanks for the clarification Gena, I will be sure to pass this information on. With regards to the forum, we did not write the program, so we have no control over its functionality. I agree though, a spell checker would be nice, bad spellers like me always have to copy their text into Word, spell check it there, and paste it back in mark.
