C5 error in IRSETUP

Converted SF7 to SF8 project.

In SUF7; this same install did not exhibit this behaviour.
In SUF8 it's hapening 100% of the time on all OS's I've tested...

Basically some "set of events" is corrupting IRSETUP's memory. I've commented out all the various actions one by one to see what is triggering it; I can't find a pattern... No External Plugin is involved.

The way it pops up is during post install, I have a screen, about 1/2 thru I call a program that waits for user input. If the user does not respond w/in 4 minutes, IRSETUP crashes.

NOTE: If I comment out the program's call and wait on the "i'm finished" screen for 4 minutes; it crashes too.

Hi Josh,

I'm not sure what the issue here would be. Maybe mail me your project file and I'll see if I can replicate the issue on my side.

I can mail it to you; but i've spent 3 days trying to comment out various bits.

this is a very complex installer with lots of lua files...
Since windbg, visual studio debugger, and drwatson all point to irsetup.exe; and irsetup (and then the setup.exe itself) close down afterwards -- sort of firmly puts the error in irsetup, no?

Yes it most probably puts the error in irsetup, however that does not mean that the error is not caused by (for example) an infinite loop in the LUA or that irsetup.exe is not being flagged as the problem when it is waiting for another program to quit.

What would be useful for me would be to be able to build the setup on my side and then debug the resulting executable.

Perhaps if we correspond via email we may be able to work something out.

If you can give me the conditions that would cause this -- I can look for it -- it's not a loop -- as it showed up on a file.run() w/ wait for return...
we tried shell.execute with the same results; if I comment out hte file-run; it sits on the "Fished install" screen -- same thing -- same error. so this is not a scripted loop/error -- it's something outside of my control....

While I understand how much better this would be -- when I approached the client "no, we can send them an exe and a key to install; but we cannot send the source" -- I'm not sure why; there's no 'trade secrets' in there...
I will try to hit them up again; but they're pushing (hard) for a rollback to sf7...
