Might be very awesome plugin/extra if there were a possibility of connecting dynamic data from external (odbc?) databases.

Yes, talking about databases, Brett had an idea for a native SQLite
connectivity that would be all beefed up. I'm hoping for a further developments of that idea, since LuaSQL project offers quite a head start for this one... You can already connect to the ODBC from APMS; just follow the guide for the MySQL database connectivity available in the forums, and do some small code modification. (However, please note that remote database servers are only supported for MySQL and PostgreSQL drivers, the others support only localhost servers.)
