I use a virtual PC (VMware) to test my installers!
First of all the dependency for the .NET framework Doesnt run! it says that the installation of the .net framwork requires Windows Installer 3.0 at least! And please dont tell me to include a dependency for Windows Installer 3.1V2 since i tried and the things are even Worse!!!!! Now, if it was just that! Mycustom actions fires up but the command lines doesnt seem to be past to the exe of these actions!!!!!! if i run the same installer on windowx XP SP2 it works ok!!! Problem is that my soft is intended to be installed on 2003 server! Why, if building the exact same installer with IS express 11.5 then eveything works fine?? |

Martin,
What version of .NET are you detecting? I will try to simulate that on a 2003 server system here. - Brett |

Hi Brett
.net framework 2.0 Now it seem to detect that it is not installed! It is just that it doesnt want to install it! It says that .net framework 2.0 installation require Windows Installer 3.0 |

Martin,
I just ran a test on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition Server with service pack 1 installed. Service pack 1 included Windows Installer 3.1, BTW. When I run my installer with the .NET 2.0 (include with setup) dependency module it detects that it is not installed, then I click OK to start the install and it seems to work fine. The install completes and then afterwards I can run my .NET 2.0 application. Does your version of Server 2003 have service pack 1 installed? You could always make that a prerequisite. |

No, I haven't tried it with the R2 edition. I will try to do that in the next few days.

OK, I just tried with Server 2003 R2 with SP1 and it worked fine again. I mean, SP1 included Windows Installer 3.1 so it does not make sense that the module thinks it is not there. Are you running on the server with Admin permissions?

Glad it worked out for you, Martin. I too have found that you need to take results from a virtualized PC with a grain of salt.
