Error message when trying to run Setup.exe
I first saw this error when I upgraded from Beta to Trial version, and assumed it may have been some incompatability. I just purchased SFW retail version today, and made some very simple test builds with 3 test files.
Under Build Setting I have selected "Standard" to generate both an MSI, and EXE. MSI version has been previously installed, and never seem to have a problem with install, or uninstall, repair. However when I try the Setup.exe version of the build. I am often getting the following error dialog. ---------------------------------------------- Error Failed to Run Setup, Invalide MSIExec command. ---------------------------------------------- This error message finally disapeared after I manually uninstalled the program from Add/Remove programs. After that, I was then able to install using the generated Setup.exe file without issue. This may be a fluke, but I have seen this previously with the beta, and trial version as well. No longer able to reproduce since I uninstalled with Add/Remove programs, but wish to document this behavior in case this is a bug. Regards, Manny |

Happened again.
Appears to occur when install is done as MSI file, and then without uninstalling, try to install as EXE. Does not happen every time, but if the file has been installed as MSI, "sometimes", running the setup.exe file fails with dialog message listed above. I realize that it is unlikely that both the MSI, and EXE version will be released. But if this is infact the problem, this could occur in some situations. |

Thanks for the report. This one was already caught internally after release and has been fixed for the next service release. Basically the case was that if there was an installed version with the same product code, but different package code, it would improperly produce that error. If need be, we can provide you with an updated copy of the default scripts if you are planning to release very soon.
Thanks. |

Hi Darryl,
Yes, I would like to get this build. Brett replied to my post regarding "Upgrading and Install". That post requires that I run the setup.exe to test his solution. Unfortunately, when I change the version # and make a new setup, I am getting the error message, and the install will not continue. It appears that I need that bug fixed if I am to try the patch upgrade recommendation that Brett recommended. thanks M. |
