Icon Creation Software?

Wondering what the popular icon creation tools are with those in the forum. Particularly the tools that allow the "XP" style icons with transparency. I have tried a few icon editors, but I am interested in hearing what you guys have had success with.

I'm terrible at making icons but FWIW we own Axialis Workshop and Ted seems to like it quite a bit.

I originally build my icons as images in Photoshop, then convert them to .ico files with ArtIcons Pro or IconXP

I use Microangelo to build the ICO files, and Photoshop for the art.

I have actually gone "pro" and invested in Axialis Icon Workshop. It's the best app I've found for icon generation, and it makes OSX and Windows Vista/XP versions, which is a huge perk for me.

I did a job about 9 months ago that included me making over 60 icons. That took a lot longer than I thought. Then I discovered http://www.iconshock.com. Yeah it cost money, but I end up saving in the end.

I use Axialis IconWorkshop as well. The new version released yesterday (6.30) adds the functionality to create / edit image strips, as used in AMS for the menu icons, and for the customized scrollbars of the paragraph object.

Here is a screenshot with the sb_Euro imagestrip opened.

Easy Icon Maker

I use easy icon maker. It's pretty simple, you can import graphics, make transparent backgrounds, etc. It also has some cool features like icon extraction/replacement.

The only thing about this program.... it dosen't use system rescoures very well, I never could figure that one out!
