Unable to unzip file error

Hi,

I just want to ask something, what is the possible reason I can get the following error:
"Unable to unzip file"
"The internal structure of the zip file is invalid"

I was running my update software several times already and even my users, but haven't experience that error before. Update was always successful.

Two users reported to me that while running the update they have encountered this error. I was trying to replicate the problem, but wasn't able to. I've also consulted the TU2 help and user guide, but unable to find any related issue, even in the forum.

By the way my zip files is uploaded in the server, and I am downloading it to the user's application folder, unzipping it and deleting the zip file after unzip.

I do believe that once TU2 is closed and again was executed, the errormessage is also refreshed or emptied, right? I am wondering why this message appear, when TU2 doesn't download anything and doesn't extract file yet. It was only trying to check for an update.

Do you have any idea what causes the problem? I will appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Elleah

Unable to unzip file error

Hi,

I just want to rephrase my query. This error happens after the download process. After TU2 downloaded the update file, then this error appears.

Actually after downloading the file, I am extracting it into my user's application folder. What could be the possible cause of it?

Thanks.

Some of the TU server data is zipped and extracted to memory. That is probably what is causing it. It is probably due to a corrupted download.

Hi Elleah,

Basically that error means that the internal organization of the ZIP file has been damaged. This may have occurred because the file was corrupted during the download process or the full file was not downloaded perhaps due to an error or because the user cancelled the process.

This error will also occur if you try to unzip a file that is not a zip file, like a text file or an executable. Is it possible that a file with the same name already occurs in that location?

Do you have any idea what the log file says? If one of your users encounters this problem, get them to send you the log file so that we can look at it and see what is happening.

I'm also a bit confused by what you said in this part:

Is it possible that you are trying to unzip the file in an incorrect spot in your update, or is this the part of your post that you wanted to rephrase?

Unable to unzip file error

Hi Mark,

I am sure that it is not a text file, nor any other file than a zip file. I am alwayas using an overwrite, so I guess it would not affect if the zip file is already in the folder location.

Yes, that was the part I would want to rephrase. There's already a downloading of file, but extracting of file failed.

Thanks,
Elleah

Hi Elleah,

The best place to look now would be in your code and in a log file from a run of your update that caused this error. That way we may be able to spot some problems or see exactly what the issue here is.

Please post the code that is causing this issue, and a log file if you have one available.

Unable to unzip file error

Hi Mark,

I guess it do something with the corrupted file. There are only two users reported this issue and since last tuesday, nobody reported same case. We guess that it was trying to extract a file which doesn't really exists, because the downloading of file was not successful. Or maybe our user were trying to download, during the time we remove and upload the updated zip file.

Right now, I've modified my script and trap all the possible error and gave a more reliable error message. I can't give you any log file at this moment because, we adviced our user to reinstall a technical installation and try to update again, so log file was overwritten already. After doing so, they successfully updated to the latest version.

I'll keep you posted, if still this error happen in the future.

Thanks,
Elleah

Unable to unzip file error

Hi Mark,

Yesterday, another user reported this issue. What I've requested her to do is to overwrite the Client excutable and data on her application folder. I've sent her a copy of the files and let her extracted it to the folder. This resolves the problem.

In this case I am puzzled why it is happening. During our first release of software, we have incorporated the update software capability and uploaded the server files as well in our server. After a couple of days, we have updated our TU2 project and have to upload the newly build server files on the server again (this is with same file name as before). We know that this will cause the client executable to restart it self right? But why it seems that in some of our user it did not? And causes them to get this error. Only by overwriting their previous client executable and data resolves the problem. Do you have any suggestion with that? Please advise.

Thanks & Regards,
Elleah

You may use zip recover. This program know how backup corrupted or deleted zip files from CD, DVD and similar devices.
