How to Detect Proxy Setting

Hello,

I was trying to find out how can I detect the proxy setting in TU2, is there a certain script I should use. I've looked on the TU2 help, but wasn't able to find it. And also how TU2 supports the authentications?

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Elleah

Hi Elleah,

TrueUpdate 2.0 uses Wininet to connect to the Internet, so the general rule is if the person can connect to the Internet using Internet Explorer then they should be able to connect to the Internet using TrueUpdate 2.0.

TrueUpdate 2.0 will try to auto-detect all proxy settings for you, so in general you should not need to detect the proxy settings on your own.

As far as auto-detecting the user's proxy settings yourself, there are no built-in method to do so, however you may be able to read in some proxy information from the registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings

How to Detect Proxy Setting

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the help. Actually I was able to read the new feature of Trueupdate 2.0 for Automatic Proxy detection.

I am just wondering if there's a certain command or line to do this, but as far as the downloading and submitting a file is concern, default proxy setting of Internet Explorer can be detected by passing a nil value, right?

Regards,
Elleah

How to Detect Proxy Setting

Hi Mark,

One more thing I would like to ask. Is there any way I can take the detected proxy setting in TU2, and uses it in the application I am currently developing, using VB script?

Actually I would like to configure my proxy setup in the application I am developing using the detected proxy setting in TU2. Is there any method I can use to perform this operation?

I will appreciate your response.

Thanks,
Elleah

TrueUpdate's proxy detection is automatic. It relies on the WININET API to detect and negotiate proxy servers and use the user's derfault connection settings. There is no way to retieve or use TU20's proxy settings externally.
