How can I add French language pack ?

I am evaluating TrueUpdate 2.0, and I have one question about language.

I tried to add French language from Languages dialog box, but I couldn't.
If I add French.xml file, [Same as Default Language] message is displayed.
But French.xml file is in the Languages folder !

This problem applies to some other languages such as Greek, Russian, Spanish...
(Please check the attached captured image)

Any advice ?

Hi toto263,

That is a strange problem, I tested this on my side and it worked properly so I have a few questions for you:

1) When you click the Add button on the Languages dialog to bring up the "Add New Language" dialog is there a star beside the French entry?

2) I also noticed that in your screen shot that you have a W with a slash through in your paths it rather then the usually "\" character, is this normal for you? Are you running on a non-English system?

I have also uploaded my copy of the french.xml files as a text file. Try shutting down TrueUpdate 2.0 and then saving it into your Languages directory. You can then delete your old language file, or copy it into another directory, and rename the file to french.xml. Then start TrueUpdate 2.0 up again and see if you can add French to a NEW project.

If you can add the French language file now, I would suggest that you uninstall and reinstall.

Hello Mark,

I am running English Windows XP. But "Language for non-Unicode program" is set to "Korean".

I changed "Language for non-Unicode program" settings back to "English", then I could load French (and all other languages) successfully !!

So, it seems that this problem occurrs when "Language for non-Unicode program" set to other language instead of English.

I would appreciate if you check the problem. To change language for non-Unicode program, please refer to attached images.

Thank you for your reply.

Hi Toto263,

I have looked into this further and it seems to be an issue with the way that accented characters are handled when the "Language for non-Unicode program" is set to "Korean".

If you take a look at the French.xml file in Notepad (when the setting is set to Korean) you will be able to see what the problem is. What happens is that certain accented characters (like à) and the next character are being converted to the ? character. This causes a problem is the accented character is the last character in an element tag, for example:

English system:
<MSG_TO>à</MSG_TO>

Korean system:
<MSG_TO>?/MSG_TO>

In the Korean system example you can see that the < character is being eaten, which leads to an error when parsing the XML.

Right now there is not much that can be done, except for you to work on your project with the "Language for non-Unicode program" set to English. The TrueUpdate 2.0 design environment is designed to work properly on English systems and that while it works fine on almost all other languages that we have encountered, there can be these types of problems.

The runtime should not have this problem since the language information is not stored in XML by it.
